European project by laser polishing 7th PCRD
Altimet finished in March 2014 this European project after conducting it for 3 years at the Fraunhofer IPT / ILT Aachen with 12 technology partners in order to establish a chain of automated polishing laser for tools and decorative parts.
This automated island includes a laser polishing machine, programming means for CAD and controls directly integrated into the machine, including a module Altisurf®50 OEM alternately placed in robotic cell, and then in the polishing machine. The development used means and metrology processes of parts and tools polished by buffer robot and laser specially adapted to the requirements of these new processes.
Valuable lessons were learned from this research, in particular to optimize the process for a final performance of the progressive stages of finishing and setting.
EQUIPEX MANUTECH-USD®
Equipment for excellence in texturing and surface functionalization by femtosecond laser.
ALTIMET won the GRAND PROJECT market led by MANUTECH-USD GIE which groups 10 institutional and many industrial partners in the development of a multi-scale texturing chain of material by laser.
This excellent equipment located in the building of the High Technologies in Saint-Etienne combines femtosecond lasers 30W, 20W and titanium-sapphire, advanced characterization means FIB / SEM / EBSD and one Altisurf®540 which combines functions developed in an unambiguous marker chromatic optical characterization, interferometric, weak force, wettability analysis, hardness-indentation, sclérométrie and local tribology of the surface.

FUI CRISPOL®
Research and development aimed at technical functional crystals.
The evolution of industrial needs in monocrystals synthesis is coupled with qualitative requirement at the surface states. Miniaturization, industrialization and market expectations imply a necessary increase in quality of shaping and finishing processes of polished crystals, on controlled costs, for "silicon" technologies, but also those of other crystals in the laser, LED, the piezoelectricity. Polishing is a key step in the manufacture of such crystals allowing to obtain adequate surfaces for the functionalization of the crystal. It is thus possible to improve the polishing by optimizing three type of parameters : equipments, processes, and consumables.
The objective of FUI Crispol and its 7 industrial and academic research centers partners, is to associate in one hand the skills of polishing equipment manufacturers and measurement tools and in other hand, the needs and knowledge of industrial crystal polishers to develop, validate, and industrialize a new generation tool and polishing process.
Innovation and research will lead at the CRISTALINNOV platform in an approach destiny to improve the efficiency and the quality of finished and intermediate surfaces .
This platform dedicated to high-tech crystals (doped sapphire in particular) to the electronics markets, optics, lasers, comes from a public-private partnership. It is based on the high-tech building CleanSpace © where ALTIMET assembles its machines, on cleanrooms 100 about 10.000 and best equipments covering the all of the crystals industrial chain and including an Altisurf®520.
